A reporter interviewing Father Liam spots Amanda being killed and resurrecting. Amanda was fighting Sean, an Immortal who has sworn vengeance on Liam for killing his adopted mother during the Revolutionary War. This event drove Liam to become a priest, which he promised to do if the mother pulled through. She didn't but Amanda lied to him. Now Liam finds out the truth from her, and gives himself up to Sean and his motorcycle gang of Immortals. Despite Nick and Amanda's attempts to protect Father Liam, he refuses to defend himself against Sean, who relents. The reporter witnesses all of this, but realizes no one will believe her...at least, until she writes up the events as a fictional novel. Copyright 2002 Steve Crow
The Immortal thief, Amanda, sets out to discover who killed her fence. Meanwhile, police detectives Nick Wolfe and Claudia Hoffmann follow her. However, they soon discover that a crooked detective, Stanley Ferris, is responsible for the murder and trying to frame Amanda for the crime.
The murder of a Navajo code-talker throws Nick and Amanda together again. Nick is determined to learn Amanda's secret.

Nick is working with Burt Meyers on security, guarding the head of a telecommunications empire. A sniper takes a shot at the woman, then falls to his apparent death after being confronted by Nick. When the body disappears, Nick suspects Immortal involvement. Amanda is cagey when he questions her, because she knows the Immortal involved: Morgan Kenworth, an old friend whose adopted son was killed by a man named Grady back in the 1890s. Not only did Morgan kill Grady, but he's been killing the man's descendants, ""the best and brightest of each generation,"" ever since. And of course, Nick's client is next on his list. Amanda tries to keep Morgan and Nick from meeting, but eventually Nick tracks Morgan to his silver shop, where he manages to shoot a pane of glass which falls and severs Morgan's head.
