Driven investigative journalist Viki begins to investigate on her own in the small town, and not everyone appreciates her poking her nose into other people's business. Marek refuses to credibly explain the gaps in his alibi, making him the prime suspect. Tensions between Elena and Adam are intensifying, as Adam will stop at nothing, shows no regard for anyone, and even involves Elena's son Tomáš in the investigation. However, when the real reason behind the gaps in Marek's alibi is revealed—thanks to Rebeka, the owner of the local guesthouse—it causes yet another upheaval in his already struggling family.

Out of desperation over the police’s continued failure to find the perpetrator, Barbora begins to place her trust in a charlatan. Thanks to Viki, media attention also turns to the Lichner family at a time when what they need most is peace and privacy. Adam starts facing demons from his past, and for the first time, his ability to investigate the case is seriously called into question. Yet he stubbornly rejects all of Elena’s attempts at reconciliation. Strange and mysterious ties also begin to surface between Marek’s friend Noro and Zuzana, who only recently moved to the town.

Thanks to the investigative work of reporter Viki and Oliver, a young and ambitious local intern, the police shift their focus to pensioner Juraj Masár, who had lived in the town for years as a seemingly upstanding citizen. While the collaboration between Viki and Oliver brings them closer together, public opinion begins to turn against Juraj. Frightened by the harsh public reaction, he turns to Adam and Elena, asking them to protect him from the enraged crowd. At that moment, Marek and Barbora's daughter Ema and her boyfriend Denis unexpectedly become involved in the investigation.

The investigation into the murder of little Daniel continues to yield no results, and Elena and Adam are forced to cope with dwindling police resources. Local priest Pavol tries to bring the town together after the recent tragedies, but he himself comes under police scrutiny. In her desperation, Barbora seeks out the mother of a victim of a similar murder—one that Adam had investigated in the past—and learns shocking information from her. Adam’s health problems are worsening, and it becomes uncertain whether he will even be able to see the investigation through to the end.

Despite Elena’s objections, Adam prioritizes the investigation over his own health—but time is running out for him. Elena puts pressure on Zuzana, who is becoming increasingly suspicious in the eyes of the police. She inexplicably refuses to clarify her role in Daniel’s death or the mysterious connection she has with Marek’s friend Noro. Meanwhile, Marek and Barbora are trying to save their marriage, and the intense investigation is beginning to take a toll on Elena’s relationship with her husband Jozef. Adam’s demons from the past are finally catching up with him.

The conflict between Adam and Elena escalates, as Adam inexplicably focuses the investigation on her son Tomáš—so much so that Elena’s husband Jozef is forced to intervene. Barbora and Marek have lost hope that the police will ever solve their son’s murder and are trying to find a shared perspective on how to move forward with their lives, even though their visions differ greatly. When Adam finally makes a major breakthrough and uncovers the killer’s identity, his revelation deeply shakes the entire town. The truth is simply too cruel—and Tichý Brod will never be the same again.
