To Catch the Uncatchable

In order to collect evidence, TUNG decides to rent the apartment where SIMON was killed. He finds out that KENNY has installed a CCTV camera inside the apartment, just as he expects. TUNG, who wonders why KENNY is so determined to conceal the identity of the real murderer, compels him to reveal the truth. After her release from police custody, WAI is finally able to resume duty. But disappointingly things do not go very well for her – her colleagues keep gossiping about her, her supervisor unreasonably expects her to make greater profits, and the worst of all, all of her staff deliberately try to please her bitter rival ROMEO hoping for a greater chance of being able to transfer to his team. This has infuriated WAI beyond measure. BUT, who is resolved to fight prostitution, appoints TUNG to disguise himself as a customer looking for a hooker.… ...

WAI reveals to the press that TUNG is an asthma sufferer. Under the pressure exerted by police management, BUT, though unwillingly, makes TUNG take a physical fitness test. As recommended by his general practitioner DR. YUE TAI-KIM, TUNG goes to consult a gym instructor JIM TSIM, during which he meets WAI again. TUNG, who tries but fails to tease JIM and WAI, finally gets locked up in the sauna room by JIM. WAI meets LI SAU-FONG, a housewife, in the market. She regards FONG as a potential client and seeks to introduce her to various insurance packages. WAI is not welcomed by FONG’s husband LAI CHEONG and is thrown out of his house right away. WAI is so desperate for business opportunities that she offers to approach CHEONG, during which she accidentally discovers that CHEONG is the leader of a mysterious religious cult. In the mean time, BEBE’s father LAI WING arrives with TUNG.… ...

FONG would like to get insurance for CHI so that he does not have to worry about his future. CHEONG has no objection to this. BEBE persuades CHI to take a sip of the ‘sacred water’ and offers to have sex with him. After that, the pair have exchanged phone numbers. BEBE has been seeing CHI in secret, which infuriates CHEONG immensely. CHEONG’s business partner LUNG HING-CHUNG suspects CHEONG has conspired to gobble up his shares and has something to do with BEBE’s sudden disappearance. He is therefore very unhappy with CHEONG. CHEONG’s assistants are instructed to take BEBE back to the headquarters but along the way, CHI appears and manages to save BEBE, which enrages CHEONG frightfully. CHI is shocked to know that BEBE is enslaved by the cult and has been working as a prostitute over these days. He tries in vain to alert her to the truth and reluctantly decides to leave her.… ...

WING finally gives in to TUNG’s persuasion and provides a vital clue to the murder. LUNG confesses to supplying drugs to CHEONG so as to facilitate the running of his teenage prostitution ring. WAI pays FONG a visit, and almost at the same time, TUNG also arrives to investigate the disappearance of a bag of drugs. Thinking that TUNG has stolen the nutrient powder that she bought from JIM, WAI flies into a fury and immediately grabs back the powder from TUNG’s hand. TUNG wonders why FONG is so keen to locate WAI. He hurries to WAI’s home and takes out a tin, inside of which is something that FONG is busy looking for. FONG has no choice but to tell the truth. TUNG brings FONG to see CHI who has just woken up from a coma. FONG and CHI hold each other and break down crying when they meet again. BUT reminds TUNG that he has to pass the physical fitness test.… ...

WAI’s company is going to hold a sports day as an annual event for its staff and clients. WAI who does not want to be defected by ROMEO is desperate for a sports partner. Top model MIA, also the award presenter at the event, is chosen to be ROMEO’s partner. WAI cannot locate JIM and reluctantly asks TUNG to be her temporary team-mate. WAI and TUNG are both hurt in the competition. As a token of apologies, JIM invites WAI and TUNG to enjoy a traditional French dinner with him but the bill is eventually paid by WAI. TUNG and WAI are surprised to learn that MIA has been pestering JIM. This makes them grow suspicious about his relationship with the sex goddess. A lunatic nicknamed CROC, with a knife in his hand, has sneaked into the press conference for the auction of a priceless piece of antique jewelry ‘Queen’s Bloody Tear’. CROC approaches MIA and seems to be going to attack her.… ...

WAI is suddenly regarded by MIA as her greatest rival in love. Filled with both surprise and fury, WAI vents all her anger on JIM. Having been rejected by JIM, MIA is thrown into turmoil. She invites ROMEO to a drugs party, during which ROMEO is tempted to try drugs and makes a complete fool of himself. The auction of ‘Queen’s Bloody Tear’ is about to start but MIA has not yet turned up, which has made LEUNG so anxious. ROMEO goes to the auction center hoping to get back his wallet from MIA. However, he is not admitted to the venue. CROC has successfully sneaked into the auction center, and during the confusion, ROMEO manages to slip in too. MIA deliberately seduces LEUNG in order to prove her beauty, leaving him at a loss for words. ROMEO, who is hiding from the security guards, has run to the back staircase, where he stumbles on CROC’s leg and falls beside MIA’s corpse.… ...

In order to investigate the death of MIA, TUNG has questioned JIM, ROMEO and LEUNG respectively. LEUNG is appointed to take care of ‘Queen’s Bloody Tear’ which is being kept in the police station. MARY spends her time looking out for LEUNG during his stay in the police station, for which he is very grateful. CROC is arrested. TUNG takes him and all the useful evidence back to the police station for further investigation. ROMEO is kept in custody and WAI is appointed to take over his duties during his absence. Since then, all the staff has changed their attitude towards her. WAI offers a few words of comfort to JIM who feels so guilty about MIA’s death. The auction company wants to get back the antique necklace so that the auction can go ahead without further delay. As there is not enough evidence to charge ROMEO with murder, BUT is undecided as to what to do next. TUNG, on the other hand, does not really see it as a big deal.… ...

CHEUNG’s mistress KO FUNG puts on the antique necklace without his permission. Fearing that their secret relationship will be revealed, CHEUNG asks LEUNG to take off the necklace for FUNG. Burning with anger, FUNG drives LEUNG off at once. ROMEO goes to meet FUNG in order to get her signature on the insurance policy but is shocked to discover her body along the away. He wonders why he has been so unlucky to have been involved in two recent murders. LEUNG makes a statement about FUNG’s death and offers to take the necklace off her body. LEUNG has been incredibly calm while dealing with the corpses, which surprises TUNG a great deal. LEUNG, on the other hand, believes that there is nothing to be feared and that this is the fate that will befall every individual who has worn ‘Queen’s Bloody Tear’. ROMEO is again kept in custody, but this time around, he is locked in the same cell as CROC, which scares him out of his wits.… ...

After an in-depth analysis of the two cases, TUNG believes that MIA and FUNG did not die of accidents and that the so-called curse of the necklace has nothing to do with their deaths. Though TUNG has successfully tracked down the killer by using MARY as bait, he does not have a clue about his motive for murdering the women. The killer has finally revealed the truth. BUT has got seriously injured when trying to rescue MARY. MARY pays him a visit, during which she suddenly takes off her coat, which gives BUT a fright. Out of BUT’s expectation, MARY wants something else. WAI is appointed Acting District Manager and ROMEO, in order to please her, immediately gives her a gift. Coincidentally, JIM has also bought her a box of chocolates of the same brand. JIM gets a little upset when he sees TUNG eating WAI’s chocolates. MARY has made some soup for BUT, which is, however, not at all appreciated.… ...

The formally dressed WAI follows JIM to the countryside, which makes her look particularly clumsy. JIM and WAI get lost on the mountain where mobile reception is incredibly poor. Try as they may, they cannot get help from outside. WAI and JIM go and seek shelter from the rain in an empty mansion, where they are almost frightened to death. TUNG gets the call from JIM, through which he learns that JIM and WAI have been trapped in a haunted house. Having heard from his mother the tale about the haunted house, TUNG heads for the outlying island to find the missing pair. As soon as he arrives at the site, he is so scared by what he has seen that he falls unconscious within seconds. ROMEO persuades his staff to make financial contributions to the renovation of WAI’s office. On the surface, he appears so eager to please WAI but in reality, he is only trying to sow discord between WAI and her colleagues.… ...

TUNG fails to arrest an old lady and is teased about it. BUT can do nothing but instruct others not to laugh at him any more. WAI has devised a plan to convince TUNG to go jogging, which, however, has left JIM a little perplexed. JIM tries to get over his psychological barrier by following WAI’s advice but their conversation is overheard by TUNG accidentally. TUNG’s colleagues are discussing who is to go and encourage him to apply for a transfer to another branch office. TUNG gives up going to the gym and chooses to hang out with his colleagues. WAI, who feels a bit irked, has a bet with others that TUNG will pass the physical fitness test. The drunken TUNG has gone into the women’s toilet by mistake, where, coincidentally, WAI is answering a call of nature. This makes WAI feel bitterly angry and ashamed. WAI remains uneasy even after returning to the office, and FUK manages to help her trace the problem. WAI hates ROMEO strongly.… ...

JIM praises WAI for encouraging TUNG to keep up with the practice while WAI points out that one will succeed when a target is set. Having heard this, JIM mistakenly believes that WAI is persuading him to woo her. TUNG’s colleagues are glad to know that BUT is appointed the examiner of the physical fitness test. They ask him to be more lenient with TUNG but are rejected. In the middle of the night, TUNG goes to a food store for a little refreshment, during which the owner of the food store CHAN WAI-KEUNG is killed by a falling shop sign. TUNG believes there must be some strange goings-on with KEUNG’s death. TUNG stays in bed all morning and fails to turn up for the fitness test. WAI drives him to the test venue but they have arrived too late – the test has already started. As WAI is sinking into despair, TUNG suddenly gets up and runs all the way to the finishing line.… ...

TUNG takes KEUNG’s enemy HUNG to the police station for questioning, as he believes that KEUNG’s death is not an accident. In the end, HUNG is found innocent. JIM goes to the police station to pick WAI up and regrets not having shared her fear. ROMEO means to give WAI a tub of goldfish so as to play a trick on her. WAI tries to act calm and later on asks for FUK’s help in removing the goldfish. BUT is shocked to discover that the two most recent victims are both called CHAN WAI-KEUNG. JIM brings WAI to a temple for worship, which irks WAI incredibly. When realizing that it is all a plot by TUNG, WAI is resolved to seek revenge. Hawker CHAN WAI-KEUNG is killed by fire from a gas lamp. TUNG believes that it is a case of serial murders, the victims of which can all be found on WAI’s phone list. ROMEO is caught while he is trying to steal the phone list. He insists that he is not involved in the murders.… ...

TUNG learns that WAI’s office has been renovated by FUK for a month. FUK has left his mobile phone in WAI’s office. After getting a call for FUK, TUNG and WAI go to visit FUK’s mother-in-law at a private care home for the elderly. There they discover that FUK was originally called CHAN WAI-KEUNG and that after the deaths of his wife and son, he meant to give himself a new name in order to help forget the trauma. After returning to the police station, TUNG asks MARY to probe into FUK’s backgrounds. FUK is almost struck by a falling object, which makes TUNG feel the need to put him under 24-hour police protection. The druggie CHAN WAI-KEUNG manages to escape from the police station. As an emergency measure, TUNG asks BUT to protect FUK. Without rhyme or reason, TUNG deliberately boasts about BUT’s past achievements in front of FUK. JIM and WAI go to buy a pack of cakes for FUK’s mother-in-law.… ...

FUK points out that all the CHAN WAI-KEUNGs deserve to be killed. His words have really messed WAI up. Having explained why FUK is under suspicion, TUNG further discloses that he has devised a plan to set the murderer up. It is finally revealed that FUK is a victim of a robbery seven years ago, in which his family was completely destroyed. Police officers from the Emergency Units propose to break into the house and save WAI, but this suggestion is rejected by BUT at once. TUNG believes FUK will not harm the innocent but WAI is still trembling with fright. TUNG opines that FUK is a good-natured guy and is going to persuade him to surrender. Suddenly JIM breaks into the house and gets into a fight with FUK. JIM gets shot in the chaos and is sent to hospital right away. WAI is so worried about him.… ...

WAI has long been impressed with BLACK ROSE’s heroic image and is always full of admiration towards her. As a token of thanks, ROSE offers to disclose to WAI her real name ‘BETTY LAU’. WAI goes to the office of the Hong Kong and San Xiang Fruits Association to sell insurance services, during which she is sexually harassed by a man. She remembers what BETTY has taught her and manages to drive the man away. TUNG arrives at the headquarters of the Fruits Association to catch the suspected sexual attacker CHEUNG CHI-KIN but the Chairman of the Association KONG YEE-HOI deliberately makes things difficult for TUNG, thus giving KIN a chance to sneak off. HOI forces KIN to turn himself in but ends up being pushed over by the guy. TUNG gives WAI a bowl of Abalone and Chicken Congee which is cheated from BUT, so that she will have something for JIM while visiting him.… ...

BETTY promises to compensate the hawkers for the loss and damage caused by the fight but HOI insists he is the one to be responsible for the terrible mess. TUNG acts as a witness to their covenant. TUNG learns from HOI his relationship with BETTY while WAI also becomes aware of how BETTY fell in love with TUNG’s father when they were young. HOI flies into a fury when he knows that CHING has not given money to FONG, thus leaving her unable to hire a lawyer for KIN. Burning with anger, he is about to bash CHING up but once again is stopped by BETTY in time. KIM is surprised to hear that HOI has been taking sexual enhancers which CHING buys from her hometown in the mainland China. Being a little curious, he follows HOI back to his home wanting to have a look at the sexual enhancers. CHING suddenly returns home and claims back all the property originally owned by HOI. This has come as a great blow to HOI.… ...

BETTY is suspected of having killed HOI while TUNG, due to his close relationship with her, is not allowed to take part in the investigation. WAI reveals that HOI had chosen BETTY to be the beneficiary of his insurance policy just before he died, which makes BETTY become the main suspect for HOI’s murder. WAI feels so guilty towards BETTY and offers to help TUNG with the investigation. TUNG discovers some important evidence among the rubbish which WAI brought from HOI’s home. In order to facilitate investigation, WAI reluctantly visits a male escort agency. TUNG is surprised to see the drunken WAI outside a pub being accompanied by a gigolo. He follows them to a love hotel hoping to save her, during which he comes across CHING. CHING, when being questioned by the police, admits that HOI died just minutes after he was given an injection of sexual enhancers. She, however, insists that the dose was appropriate.… ...

The soup that BUT has prepared for MARY is said to be likely to leave a scar on MARY’s skin but BUT insists he was not aware of it. This has, nevertheless, inspired TUNG. Having got the money from HOI’s insurance company, BETTY decides to continue to run the Fruits Association so as to accomplish HOI’s will. WAI is disgusted to hear that ROMEO and other male colleagues have surrounded themselves with prostitutes on their business trip to China. She is even more disgusted when she knows that TUNG is also interested in the same thing as they are. In fact TUNG is going to China to search for the doctor who sells the sexual enhancers to CHING. But he is so careless that he has revealed his identity as a Hong Kong police officer and consequently placed himself in danger. At HOI’s funeral, TUNG means to put KIM to the test, through which he learns that KIM is well acquainted with the properties of the sexual enhancers which HOI used to take.… ...

WAI takes TUNG’s advice and tries her very best to put up with ROMEO. Despite this, ROMEO shows no sign of gratitude and becomes more and more difficult to work with. TUNG finds that WAI has been avoiding JIM. Being stuck with no way out, WAI requests TUNG to help sort out her relationship with JIM. TUNG happens to discover that ROMEO is going to bring a client to a nightclub. He decides to follow them to the spot, where ROMEO is later found to be in possession of illegal drugs and arrested subsequently. CHOW suddenly appoints WAI as District Manager, which surprises her for quite a while. She is shocked to learn from the newspapers that ROMEO is arrested. WAI invites TUNG to dinner and is resolved to make it clear to JIM that she will not go to Canada. WAI has a gathering with her old schoolmates, during which her friends keep bragging about their achievements, which makes WAI feel a little inferior.… ...

WAI gets on KING’s yacht to let him sign the insurance declaration. KING grabs this chance to take sexual advantage of WAI while WAI tries her best to protect herself. WAI reveals to YEE what KING has done, in the hope of making her face the reality. YEE and KING get into a car accident when they are quarrelling. YEE is astonished and heartbroken to hear about KING’s death after she has come around from the coma. WAI feels a deep sense of guilt and JIM tries to give her some words of comfort. Soon after her recovery, MARY resumes duty and immediately pleads with BUT to buy her insurance services. WAI introduces YEE to JIM hoping that she would develop an interest in sports instead of relying on medicine. Having been encouraged by YEE, JIM decides to express his love for WAI. WAI honestly tells JIM that he is not the one she is looking for. TUNG suspects WAI is in love with him when he hears her talk about his flaws.… ...

JIM stresses that he has to be responsible for what he did to WAI. Thinking that they have had slept with each other, TUNG is bitterly upset and goes off alone. After giving TUNG a terrible telling-off for believing JIM, WAI stomps off in a rage. Having been rejected by WAI, JIM drinks himself into a stupor. He comes home drunk and lies down on his bed. In the meantime, the WAI look-alike arrives and snuggles up to him asking for a kiss. JIM comes to know whom he slept with the other night. WAI and TUNG have been looking for each other in the street all day long. WAI is glad to see that TUNG is so eager to find her. Realizing that TUNG still cares about her, WAI gets deeply touched. JIM is assaulted after he rejects YEE. He is so severely injured that he has lapsed into a coma. TUNG and WAI meet again and make up with each other finally. WAI is charged with assaulting JIM.… ...

TUNG has fallen into a coma. KIM points out that he has only a slim chance of recovering consciousness and that all others can do is to wait for a miracle to happen. WAI goes to the hospital to look after TUNG every day without fail. JIM, after being discharged from the hospital, brings WAI to the temple to pray, hoping that TUNG will wake up soon. WAI is thrilled to bits when she sees a sign of consciousness on TUNG’s face. KIM explains that TUNG has the blood clot removed from the crucial area of his brain and TUNG has finally come round as hoped by everyone. TUNG’s friends, who have got everything ready, encourage TUNG to propose to WAI. WAI is over the moon and accepts his proposal of marriage without hesitation. KIM tells TUNG that the blood clot in his brain constitutes a health risk. TUNG is prepared for the worst and urges KIM not to reveal anything about his condition.… ...
