The Darkness Between Us

Azta is constantly one step ahead of Freya. Mia is tired of Freya's criticism of Azta, and Freya decides to find more answers before going on the attack again. The symbol on Aztas' chest leads Freya on the trail of the ancient witch group, Angitias Døtre, who lived in the Mosedal area, where witch-burnings happened frequently in the past. While Freya is busy, Azta brings out the darkness in Victor.

Freya wakes up devoid of memories of the events of the last days. Azta pictures Freya in that they are friends, and the new teacher, Azalie, frees Freya from her prefect role so she can take care of herself. But since Azta's influence on Malte and Victor shows her deadly extent, it is not Freya herself she has to watch out for. Meanwhile, Azta is in her forest temple, ready to sacrifice someone's soul.

Tor is worried about Mia and seeks out Freya to find out more about Azta. Freya finally begins to remember, but is not ready to share the notebook's witch accusations about Azta with Tor. While Tor tries to keep Azta back at school, Freya throws herself into a risky plan - a plan she does not get through wholeheartedly. In return, she finds out something about Azta that scares Freya out of her wits.

Freya has stolen Azta's book and now has the key to open it. She shares the content with Tor. But even if Tor tries, it's hard to take Freya's concern seriously - it simply sounds too insane to have a pact with the devil. Mia helps Azta look for Freya, and encourages Azta to tell about her family. Azta struggles with the fear of whether Mia will understand or reject her.

Last day of the year. For most, it means New Year’s hats and fireworks. For Azta, that means her time is running out. She owes the pact a sacrifice and will be punished if it does not come before midnight. Azalie will not risk breaking the pact, and exploits Mia as bait. The clock is ticking. Azta is in the dilemma of his life, and Thor's anger is so great that it puts him in danger.

There is not much hope for the new year. Because even though everyone survived the New Year, it's only a matter of time before either Mia's or Aztas' bodies give up. The fear of losing is spreading and everyone is trying to gain control of the situation in their own way without listening to each other. Mia is more missed than ever but only gets worse and worse.

Azta is chained in the basement, and there is no point in promising that she will save Mia if she is released. Only Azalie knows how, and she will only wake Mia when Azta has sacrificed a soul. Freya fools Azalie and finds something in the local books that helps her understand why Azta gets burned by invisible flames and what will happen if the flames are not stopped.

Tor is ready to be sacrificed, but Azta does not want to sacrifice him. She does not want to sacrifice anyone. But when Azalie fails to force Azta to obey the pact, a far darker power sets in. A power that Azta cannot challenge. The time has come for the great showdown. The devil demands his sacrifice - and gets it.
